Torrington man killed in Harwinton crash

Harwinton, Conn. (WTNH) - A 33-year-old Torrington man was killed when his SUV went airborne and crashed into a parking lot in Harwinton early Wednesday morning, police said.

Daniel C. Rimkie was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened at the intersection of Route 222 (Hill Road) and Route 118 (Litchfield Road).

Rimkie was traveling north on Route 222 when his GMC Jimmy crossed over Route 118 and hit a rock embankment, police said in an accident report. His vehicle vaulted into the air, striking several small trees before coming to rest in a parking lot.

The vehicle was damaged all over, including heavy front end damage.

Police continue to investigate what led to the crash.
