WASHINGTON, Conn. (WTNH/AP) -- Several municipal trucks and equipment were destroyed in a fire Wednesday morning at the town garage in Washington.
Firefighters responded to the garage off Blackville Road at about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, after neighbors reported hearing explosions. The garage was fully engulfed in flames when emergency officials arrived. Crews are still at the scene.
First Selectman Mark Lyon says the garage is destroyed and about 70 percent of the equipment was lost.
"I already called the insurance company and we'll have to start working with local vendors and see what we can do to regroup, get back in business," he said.
Officials are investigating what caused the fire.
Some neighbors report hearing explosions.
No injuries were reported.
