SALISBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A hiker was taken to the hospital after being injured on the Appalachian Trail in Salisbury Thursday.
The incident happened around 11 a.m.
Officials said the 24-year-old volunteer was with a group of people doing trail work when they slipped and fell, suffering a head injury at the Mount Riga shelter.
Due to the nature of the injury, Lifestar was called to the scene.
However, the man had to be brought off the mountain to Lifestar waiting at the base.
Officials said the rope rescue crew and ATV's assisted in getting the man down off the mountain, which took until around 2:30 p.m.
The man was conscious and alert throughout the rescue.
He was flown to Waterbury Hospital.
