An honor Friday for a Connecticut state trooper killed in the line of duty many years ago.
Trooper James Savage, 42 at the time, was killed on Jan. 22, 1986 during a routine traffic stop.
It was on Route 8 in the Watertown area. Trooper Savage was on his way home from working his shift when during that stop he was struck and killed by a motorist.
Today the twin bridges on the Litchfield-Harwinton town line were dedicated in his memory.
The span is on Route 8, it will now be known as Trooper James Savage Memorial Bridge.
Savage's widow remembers her husband the man and what he stood for.
"In order of preference, he loved God, he loved his family, he loved his job, so this is a tremendous honor for us, his family, his friends and what a tremendous outpouring of people here today," Marge Savage said.
The sign has not yet been put into place on the bridge as it is being refurbished but it will go up soon more than 23 years after the death of Trooper Savage.
