WINCHESTER, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut environmental officials are hoping to trap a black bear that was seen dining on some pigs it took from a pen in Winchester.

Resident Ted Iffland says he saw the bear eating one of his pigs after going outside Monday night to investigate how another pig got loose.

Ifflands tells the Hartford Courant he found a live pig, a dead pig, and the bear eating a third pig.

His wife, Dawn, says the bear appears to have lifted the pigs over the pen's fence.

Paul Rego, a wildlife biologist with the state Department of Environmental Protection says a bear trap has been placed near the pig pen. He says because it attacked livestock, if the bear is caught it may have to be killed.
