TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Winsted Road in Torrington was closed for hours while police were on the scene investigating a fatal motorcycle crash.
42-year-old John Coon was killed in a motorcycle crash on Winsted Road in Torrington near the Winsted town line on Wednesday just before 6:30 p.m.
Police say Coon was driving north when his a 2004 Yamaha R1 motorcycle crashed into a car and then collided with a guardrail.
Coon sustained trauma to his head and torso. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say he was not wearing a helmet.
Winsted Road was closed for hours while officers were on the scene. The road reopened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
The incident is under investigation. Witnesses are encouraged to call Officer Wityak of the Torrington Police Accident Investigation Team at 860-489-2000.
