KENT, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Kent resident reported his pickup truck was stolen and then found it in a local river.
Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle Wednesday morning. Upon further investigation, the pickup truck was found in the Housatonic River along Schaghticoke Road.
Based on the initial investigation, police say that the vehicle struck a large tree and then rolled down into an embankment into the river.
The Kent Fire Department dive team located the vehicle underwater and the Connecticut State Police Department Dive Team was dispatched to help with the investigation.
The vehicle was not occupied and the vehicle was subsequently removed from the water.
Both airbags in the vehicle were deployed, but there was no apparent evidence of any injury. Keys were in the ignition and the vehicle was in park.
Officials have concluded that the operator of the vehicle had escaped before the truck became submerged in the river.
There is an ongoing investigation on the incident.
