Terryville, Conn (WTNH) - Two plow trucks and the roof of the maintenance garage in Terryville are the latest casualties of winter weather that's causing roof collapses across the state.
The public works garage in the Terryville section of Plymouth collapsed just after 8:30pm Friday night.
Police said the highway garage on Hillside Avenue collapsed due to the weight of heavy snow on its roof.
There were several plow trucks in the garage at the time, and the building sustained extensive damage in addition to the trucks.
Today the warmer weather allowed officials to do some cleaning up, but they've got more work to do.
When asked where there town is in their cleanup efforts, Plymouth Vincent Festa Jr. said, "We're in pretty good shape. We had our volunteer fire department here this morning, along with our highway crew, with extra support for various communities doing the cleanup. We've salvaged at least five of our vehciles. Two are damaged, but not anything that can't be repaired or replaced without going to serious expense. However, we did lose the building."
Building inspectors are expected to submit a report to town officials in the coming days. The damage is expected to be in the thousands of dollars because the town has to replace and repair the plows, as well as rebuild the garage.
Six different communities have offered support. The volunteer fire department helped clean up Saturday, and they will be checking roofs across town on Sunday.
"Tomorrow we're doing our maintenance garage down the street from us. This one was scheduled to get to as well. Unfortunately, we didn't get to it in time," Festa said.
