(WTNH) - We all know, broccoli is good for us but did you know it may also lower a smoker's risk of lung cancer?

Researchers say cruciferous veggies like broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts have a protective nutrient that guards against cancers common to smokers.

Scientists found smokers who ate the vegetables cut their lung cancer risk by 20 to 55 percent compared to smokers who did not eat the veggies.

But, doctors say while this may protect smokers, quitting is still the best way to avoid lung cancer.
