Winthrop man gets 5 years for OUI

BOSTON (AP) — A Winthrop man prosecutors describe as a serial drunken driver has been sentenced to a maximum five years in prison following his eighth OUI conviction.

The Suffolk district attorney's office says 61-year-old Joseph Limone was also sentenced to 15 years of probation following his conviction this month on operating under the influence, assault with a dangerous weapon, and malicious destruction of property charges.

Limone was sentenced for a traffic stop in Revere in July 2011 after he was spotted driving erratically, honking his horn and yelling at other motorists. Police say drove the wrong way down a one-way street, failed field sobriety tests, then kicked out the rear window of a police cruiser.

His license had been revoked for life in 1997.
