Meriden (WTNH) - Police in Meriden are investigating what they call a "shooting
spree" that injured one person.
When responding to the shots fired call on Twiss and Liberty
Street at around 11:00 last night, police found more than three
dozen young people fleeing the scene.
Witnesses say they saw one or more people firing handguns in the
crowd.
One of those witnesses was a young mother putting her baby in
the car when the shots rang out.
"The preliminary investigation shows that there were multiple
shots fired from at least two different types of handguns used and
some metal knuckles were recovered at the scene," Lt. Robert Green
of the Meriden Police Dept. explained.
A 19-year-old black man was found shot in the upper body in a
house on Twiss Street.
He is being treated at Hartford Hospital this morning for
serious but non-life threatening injuries, the only shooting victim
so far in a incident that spanned three blocks and left several
rounds scattered around the area.
No word on what sparked the incident, and no arrests have been
made yet.
Police only have a partial description of one suspect.
They ask anyone with information about this so-called "shooting
spree" to contact them at (203) 630-6201.
