A rodeo to prep snow plow drivers

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) -- With winter and potential snow storms right around the corner, dozens of snow plow crews are starting to prep now.

A "snow plow rodeo" in the center of the state reached out, allowing for municipalities from across Connecticut to join in on the action on Thursday.

Three different classes of trucks participate and there is a large obstacle course that trucks must maneuver through. All trucks have their plows down as they drive through.

The obstacle course is set up with cones and mailboxes. The idea is to hit the cones and avoid the mailboxes.

Every cone hit means a point, if but a cone is missed or the mailbox is knocked over, then points get subtracted each time.

Participants told News 8 that over 50 different municipalities were there and that the event continues through the afternoon.

It may only be October, but if last year was any indicator, it's never too soon to start getting ready.
