Accused teacher found dead in lake

Middlefield, Conn. (WTNH) - A New London teacher who was facing sex assault charges was found dead in a lake in Middlefield Friday.

The body of Jeffrey Francis, 23, of Durham, was found by a state police dive team in Lake Beseck just off of King Road.

Police were called after Francis failed to return to his home Thursday morning and was reported missing. After an alert was issued Francis' car was located near Lake Beseck in Middlefield.

A dive team searched the area today, and Francis' body was found a little after 1:00 p.m. Police said there appeared to be "no criminal aspect" to his death. An autopsy will be performed.

Francis was arrested by Wallingford Police Wednesday on two counts of second degree sex assault and risk of injury to a minor. He was a teacher at the Interdistrict School for the Arts and Communication in New London.
