Middletown, Conn (WTNH) - One girl at a Board of Education meeting in Middletown Tuesday night hasn't been in school for weeks because she's in constant fear of being attacked by her classmates.
This story is about a mother trying to protect her daughter from some mean bully bullies. They're so nasty she says they could end up in court. On Tuesday night the Board of Education held a bullying conference to try and protect her child, and others in Middletown.
"Some of them poured syrup in my hair. They tripped me, harassed me on facebook, and physically harassed me," bullying victim Monique McClain said.
On Tuesday night members of the Board of Education heard first hand just how far bullying can go.
When asked if the bullies threatened her, McClain said, "Yes. [They said] when you get off the bus I will beat you up, and demolish you."
"This has gone on for 6 months. Six non-stop months. Even when you are home you get phone calls as to what is going to happen. It's gone on too long," McClain said.
The Superintendent is familiar with the case. Monique dropped out of school, and stays home during the day, something her grandmother wants changed.
"Monique has been without any structured education for 49 days after having endured 133 days of unchecked bullying," Alycia McClain, Monique's grandmother said.
The Superintendent can not discuss this case, or any juvenile case, but he says they are working with police to stop bullying, because many times it takes place off of school grounds, and in cyberspace.
"Yeah, it's a big issue, and very difficult to deal with, because things are happening out of school," Middletown Superintendent Michael Frechette said.
The Board of Ed says they have a zero tolerance policy, and they will enforce it district wide.
