Conn. dump truck driver killed in crash

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (AP) — Police say the driver of a dump truck has been killed after his vehicle ran off Route 66 in Middletown and overturned.

Middletown police said the truck was eastbound on Route 66 just before 2 p.m. Tuesday when it went through a red light with the horn blowing. Police said it swiped a car, which wasn't severely damaged, and went over an embankment before overturning in a shopping plaza parking lot.

Police said the truck driver was killed. The driver of the car was not seriously hurt.

The truck's load of gravel was spilled in the crash.
