PORTLAND, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters were called to the scene of a fully-involved house fire on Breezy Corners Road in Portland Wednesday morning.

Officials say the fire at 25 Breezy Corners Road began around 1:30 a.m.

Firefighters from Portland and Middletown were called in to battle the flames.

Original reports indicated propane tanks exploded in the fire, but authorities explain the tanks were venting as they are designed to do, which meant they could be heard whistling. Popping sounds were originally thought to be gunshots, but it was actually aerosol cans exploding in the garage.

Fire officials say it was difficult to get water to the home, because the house is about two football fields from the entrance to the driveway.

Breezy Corners Road was blocked off for a time while crews are on the scene.

No one was hurt, but a family is now without a home as the house is a total loss.
