Westbrook, Conn. (WTNH) - Folks without a boat were stranded when Westbrook's shore flooded with water.

"This has been the worst that It's been since Irene," said resident Nancy Bromley.

Bromley says her road, Sunrise, and others along Westbrook's Grove Beach flood a few times a year when conditions are right.

"You can see it come up. It happens with the full moon," said Scott Atwater. "A full moon something to do with the tide the full moon and then the heavy rain and then it just comes over. It floods over comes over in the marsh area."

"It was a little bit of water and then a half hour later it was a lot of water," Bromley said, while laughing.

Bromley and her husband had to park their car up the road after the water came flooding in with the high tide and a nearby river breached its banks.

"You can't really get through there. There are very many times you can't get through that intersection especially cause it's salt water," Greg Bromley said. "Even if you do make it through you don't make it through that many times before it rusts out your car."

The Bromleys say with the high tide it only took about a half hour for water to flood up the shore.

It is expected to take several hours for the water to completely recede.
