Girl, 15, killed in hit-and-run

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Clinton teen was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Friday night.

Police identified the victim as Cailyn Bassett, age 15.

According to police, Bassett was walking on Saybrook Road near Coe Ave. around 5:45 p.m. when she was struck and killed by a motor vehicle, which then fled the scene.

Bassett was a student at the Morgan School in Clinton. Superintendent Jack Cross said they will make counseling available next week.

"We are concerned about Cailyn's immediate circle of friends, her family, and those students for whom a loss of this nature stirs or rekindles grief suffered by a loss in their own family," Cross said.
