Higganum, Conn. (WTNH) - A 21-year-old man remained in serious condition Tuesday afternoon after a car struck two trees on Candlewood Hill Road in Higganum. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.
Police say a Life Star helicopter was called in to take Christian McKenna, the driver of the car involved, to Hartford Hospital.
The crash occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Candlewood Hill between Wiese Albert Road and Jacoby Road. According to police the driver of a Subaru crashed into two trees and was ejected from his vehicle.
The victim's name was not released, but his family has been notified, state police said.
The fire chief told News 8's Erin Logan this is a dangerous road, and accidents like this happen all the time.
"There's no street lights, there's corners," Chief Gary Klare, Haddam Fire Department, said. "If you're going a little bit to fast or you are unfamiliar with the roads, a corner will come up on you real quick and if you over correct if you're going too fast you're in trouble.
"Straight stretches turn into corners fairly quick out here so be careful," the chief said.
The road was closed for a time for the rescue, but was reopened a little after 5:00 a.m.
