Middletown, Conn. (WTNH) - The 17 year old teen who was reported missing on Thursday, August 11 has been found.

Middletown police were trying to track down Nathan Carman, who left home on his mountain bike. Carman has Asperger's Syndrome, a form of autism. His family said that he had been upset about the recent death of his horse.

On Monday, around 8:30pm, Carman was located in Sussex County Virginia, which is approximately thirty miles north of the North Carolina state line. He was found to be in good health and was unharmed.

Sussex County Deputy John OgBurn was dispatched to a call of a suspicious person near an old store. The caller reported seeing a youth with a motorized scooter hanging around the store.

The deputy located the youth and discovered that he was trying to find a safe place to sleep for the night.

The teen was carrying a social security card with the name Nathan James Carman on it, along with an undisclosed amount of cash. The deputy subsequently ran the name and found that Nathan Carman was listed as missing.

The Sussex County Sheriff's department immediately contacted Middletown Police Dispatch for confirmation of the missing youth.

According to Deputy Ogburn, Nathan had two pictures of himself with his horse that recently passed on due to illness. The scooter that Nathan had was reportedly purchased in Hopewell, Virginia, which is near Richmond. Deputy Ogburn reported that Nathan arrived in the Virginia area via a bus and had plans to travel to Florida on the scooter.

Middletown Police lead Detective Daniel Petrulis was currently working on the case when the call came in. He is now coordinating with the Carman family to reunite them with Nathan.

Carman had previously been spotted in New Haven getting off a bus. A surveillance camera showed him at the corner of Chapel and Temple streets. On Sunday, volunteers gathered in New Haven to hand out fliers and look for the missing teen.
