Police: shooting suspect kills himself

Essex (AP) - Connecticut state police say a man who shot his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend and kidnapped her killed himself as a trooper approached his car in Essex.

The suicide victim has been identified as 24-year old Robert Finkeldey of Old Saybrook.

Police say Finkeldey shot the other man Saturday evening in Westbrook. The woman told police that she and her current boyfriend were in a car in Westbrook when Finkeldey shot the other man and forced her out of the vehicle. She was able to maker her escape in Essex.

The victim is in stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. His name was not released.

Police spotted Finkeldey Sunday morning on Route 154 in Essex. As the state trooper approached his car, Finkeldey grabbed the gun and shot himself in the head.
