A doctor from New York escaped injury after crash landing his small plane in shallow water on Long Island Sound off Westbrook.

According to The Day, Dr. Albert Sheehy, a 77-year-old internist from Cross River, N.Y., was flying from Block Island to Danbury when his plane lost power Saturday afternoon.

He glided in for a crash landing just offshore near the Westbrook Elks Club. A man on a personal water craft gave Sheehy a ride to shore. He was not injured.

Donald Mikalsen, who was having his wedding reception at the Elks Club, joked that he had told the pilot he could fly in for the wedding.
