Middletown (WTNH) - Just in time for Halloween, some spooky fun in Middletown. A confidence building center has turned their zip line into a haunted happening.

A howl and grown, screams in the night; they are the sounds of a haunted forest high in the trees. But, witches and ghosts aren't flying through the air; you are.

It's a one of a kind, never been done before, haunted zip line in Middletown.

There are five zip lines and two rope bridges that take you nearly a half mile through the woods; anywhere from four to seven stories off the ground.

"Pretty nervous once you get up on that box; once you go it's a lot better, but I was still scared," said Erica Modeen of Wolcott.

The haunted zip line was created by former special forces soldier Joe Dering. After two tours in the Middle East, he brought his ranger training back to Connecticut.

"The eerie element of the night and the noises in the forest are scary enough but to have some of the Halloween props up there and the scenario, it all plays to the good time," Dering said.

Just in case zipping through the woods at night at 20-25 miles an hour isn't scary enough for you, they do make one promise: there will be no ghosts or goblins jumping out at you while you are in the air, they save that all for on the ground.

"You're at 40 to 70 feet in the tree tops; that is scary enough but no promises when you are on the ground," he said.
