Portland (WTNH) - Slick spots on the roads are making driving troublesome for Monday morning commuters. Two crashes closed the the Arrigoni Bridge for three hours.
"You really have to watch the bridges and overpasses, but even the shoulder areas could be a little icy out there," Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said.
The bridge between Portland and Middletown over the Connecticut River was closed after two minor crashes. Officials temporarily closed the span until road crews could salt and sand the road deck.
The bridge was reopened at a little after 8:00 a.m.
In nearby Cromwell, a two-car crash was reported on I-91South at Exit 21. WTNH also received reports of spinouts and crashes on I-84/Route 8 in Waterbury.
Another report via Twitter said there were slick conditions on Route 9 in Kensington.
"Any bridge or overpass suspended in the air tends to cool faster than the actual air temperature. That is why you get these icy spots, and we're finding those pretty much scattered all around the state," Simmons said.
Temperatures at the 5:00 o'clock hour were in the low to mid 30's across the state. The National Weather Service issued a Freeze Warning for Northern Fairfield County.
