Officials probe 2nd fire at Middletown building

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters battled a blaze at an unoccupied building in Middletown Thursday night.

The fire broke out around 7 p.m., at an unoccupied two-family home, located at 9 Maple Place.

Officers said the building had been condemned due to a previous fire on June 18th.

Firefighters were able to extinguish Thursday night's small interior fire without incident.

Since this is the second suspicious fire at the residence in the past few months, investigators are working to determine if the incidents are connected.

On June 18th, just after noon, firefighters responded to the residence after a witness reported seeing a large amount of smoke coming from the rear door. Officials said indicators within the home led them to believe that the fire was intentionally set.

No one was injured in the June or August fires.

Both fires are currently under investigation.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Middletown Police detectives at 860-344-3240.
