MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH)-- One person was injured climbing out of their bedroom window to escape a fire that happened in the early hours of Saturday morning, in Middletown.
Fire officials say when they arrived at the scene at 126 Miner Street, around 12:15 AM, the first and second floors of the home were on fire.
There was one person inside of the house at the time, who climbed out of their bedroom window and on to the porch roof. From there, they jumped to the ground, breaking their ankle.
That person was transported to Middlesex hospital.
Firefighters say it took about an hour to get the fire under control, because the fire got into the walls and went up to the roof.
They also say the cold weather played a role in making fighting the fire challenging, because the ladders were frozen, as well as ice on the ground.
Westfield, East Berlin, Cromwell, Middlefield, Middletown, and South District firefighters were called in for additional help.
The home was built in the 1800s and under renovations.
No firefighters were injured and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
