(WTNH) -- The teenager whose allegations of child abuse led to the arrest and conviction of Jerry Sandusky is going public with his story. Aaron Fisher spoke exclusively to ABC's Chris Cuomo, and that interview airs tonight on 20/20.
The fact is, had Aaron Fisher not had the courage to step forward Jerry Sandusky might still be a free man today.
"I am in awe of this young man's ability to survive after what he's been through, after what Jerry Sandusky put him through," Cuomo said.
Fisher was just 10 when he met Sandusky, like many other boys invited to be a part of the former coach's charity 'The Second Mile'. He says Sandusky soon began to show him extra attention, like inviting him to sleep-overs at his home, where he says the abuse occurred.
The young man, later to become know as victim number one, told Cuomo the last thing he wants now is to be anybody's victim.
"Victim means people feel sympathy for you; I don't want that," Fisher said. "I would rather be known as somebody who did something good like a hero or somebody."
When Fisher finally got the courage to speak up he went to his mother and school principal, detailing the abuse going on. But after hearing the news Aaron's mother claims the principal told her to go home and think about it before taking any action.
"Go home and think about what," says Dawn Daniels, Aaron's mother. "Think about what? What is there to think about. We need to call the police right now."
That lack of action says Cuomo is one reason Aaron Fisher is speaking out now.
"This kid started it all, but we don't know what happened to him in his school. We haven't held those people accountable. There have been on hearings. There's been no change. That's what he wants to happen, that's what we promised him in our story."
Cuomo tried to hold that principal, who still works at Fisher's old school, accountable, but she wouldn't answer his questions and quickly walked away.
"I wish it hadn't happened, but you're not going to get away with it, I promise you that," Cuomo said. "You're not going to avoid questions like this when a kid was hurt the way he was and you're not going to get away with it because you run away. I promise you that, that's just not the way it works."
Jerry Sandusky is now behind bars after being sentenced to 30-to-60 years for his crimes. He will almost certainly die in prison.
The full interview with Aaron Fisher airs tonight on 20/20 10:00 p.m. on News 8.
