Much of he city will be closed to cars this morning to clear the way for thousands of runners taking part in the 20k USA championship race, the 5k run and half-mile kids' run.

"We're expecting 6,600 runners, a total of about 15,000 people on the green here," Race vice president Frank Alvarado said.

Brett Gotcher and Colleen Dereuck, winners of last year's 20K races, will be back to defend their titles.

Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. on the Green. The running begins at 8:40 a.m.
