New Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - A Labor Day tradition in New Haven will take off under beautiful weather Monday. It's the 33rd Stratton Faxon New Haven Road Race .
Much of he city will be closed to cars this morning to clear the way for thousands of runners taking part in the 20k USA championship race, the 5k run and half-mile kids' run.
"We're expecting 6,600 runners, a total of about 15,000 people on the green here," Race vice president Frank Alvarado said.
Brett Gotcher and Colleen Dereuck, winners of last year's 20K races, will be back to defend their titles.
Registration opens at 6:30 a.m. on the Green. The running begins at 8:40 a.m.
The weather for the runners looks sweet, Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons reports. Temperature at the start will be around 61F and clear.
"We're extatic about the weather, it makes a difference," New Haven Road Race President John Courtmamche said.
Business was brisk in Pakistan as several thousand people paid to see the shark.
