Madison, Conn. (WTNH) - Some Madison folks got their time in the limelight when an independent filmmaker came to town to shoot a movie called 'Harvest.'
It's a coming out of age film about a college student who comes home and watches his grandfather live his final days.
The Fourth of July Parade that comes through the center of town on the nation's birthday even got a part in the movie. "We actually filmed the real Fourth of July Parade and then later filmed the actors within the scene and combined that in edit," explained Marc Meyers the writer and director of 'Harvest.'
They filmed almost the entire movie in Madison, making the town as much of a character in the movie as the actors. Meyers' plan was to avoid the 'generic' setting, so he used Madison, a place where he spent a lot of time in the past because he has family in town.
"When I was writing the script, I was familiar with Madison so I could write with a lot of detail," explained Meyers. "Then it made it much easier when we were going to production to say; 'The scene at the coffee shop, let's just go to the coffee shop. The scene at the wine store, let's just go the wine store."'
They also used a real house, both inside and out, as the family home. The real homeowner's dog, Logan even makes a cameo.
Meyers says dealing with the town and people was a pleasure and he's excited to 'bring it home' this weekend. "Besides people being entertained by the story, they'll also be, I think, amused by seeing their own town and region on the screen," said Meyers.
The film 'Harvest' will be shown at the Madison Arts Theater at 4:15 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. After the showing there will be a Q&A with the filmmaker Marc Meyers himself.
