NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The blizzard clean up continues in the Elm city. There was so much snow and rain that it caused problems at an apartment complex on Fountain Street.
"The snow is a lot of snow," said Mayor DeStefano.
The walls of the building buckled under the weight of the winter weather.
The apartment building is at 333 Fountain St. According to the city, the building is a 12 unit wood and brick apartment building.
"Saturday evening into Sunday, my daughter calls me and this is the crack in their room. Now this was never there. From the snow fall. I can literally put my hand in between the crack," said Keonsha Little of New Haven.
"We have evacuated the building, had the building department survey the building. They determined it was unsafe and it is condemned," said New Haven Fire Chief Michael Grant.
Residents were evacuated and moved to hotels for the night. Another concern in Connecticut communities including New Haven is snow-packed streets.
Drivers also have to maneuver snow piles and road closures just to get around. The emergency operations center has been going non stop since Friday.
The call they get the most is when will my street be plowed.
"We'll get to it but we had a lot of snow. It's going to take a lot of time but we'll get to it, just be patient," said Mayor DeStefano.
The mayor says he hopes to have at least one lane of traffic open on every city street by tomorrow or Wednesday.
The city has 85 pay-loaders and plows out on the streets and they mayor says they won't stop working until it's done.
"God sent us a beautiful gift and now we're working on it," said Mayor DeStefano.
