BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH)-- Branford residents were butting heads over a local gun shop.

The small store, TGS Outdoors, is already open and located in downtown Branford.

154 people signed a petition urging local politicians to shut it down, after the tragedy at Sandy Hook. Others say the store isn't breaking any laws by being open.

About thirty came to the hearing Saturday.

Here's what both sides said at the public hearing today.

"Having it in town, that's fine you want to go out to North Main Street, or want to go out to West Main Street ,or way out East Main Street, do it. Not in the center of town," said Nancy Lynch,a Branford resident.

"I feel just as uncomfortable walking into a boutique, as some might walking into a gun shop. I feel very comfortable in the gun shop because I know the gun shops are regulated by the federal government, state government, and local government," said Steven O'Neill,a Branford resident.

This is the second public hearing on the issue.
