Milford, Conn. (WTNH) - People gathered, Monday night, to mourn the loss of a brother and sister who were killed in crash after coming home fromĀ  Sunday mass.

19-year-old Paul John Heron was driving the Honda Civic that hit a utility pole, on Gulf Street, which claimed his life along with his passenger's; his 15-year-old sister Alexa Heron .

The crash happened near the Heron's home when Paul somehow lost control of his car and struck the pole.

Paul died at the scene and Alexa was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

He was a 2008 graduate of Foran High School . She was a sophomore at Foran. On facebook, hundreds of people have signed up for memorial sites set up in their memories. One page is here and another is here .

Monday evening, hundreds gathered at the Milford site overlooking Long Island Sound where it happened.

"I can't imagine what her parents are going through; they lost both of their children and they don't have anybody else. I don't think my mom would live through something like that; I feel terrible," said sophomore Sam Pepe.

Friends came out for the vigil to lay flowers and pay respects. For some it was the first time they had to see the scene; it was raw, emotional and as fresh as the skid marks outlined by spray paint for the investigation.

People say they weren't prepared for it or prepared to say goodbye to young lives cut short.

"I drove by and saw the tire marks and it made me think of what could have happened; no one has said much details about what happened," said sophomore Jen Rodriguez.

For now they are lighting candles and singing hymns in honor of a brother and sister who never made it home.

"Keeping the memory alive; even though she is not here any more, we will always remember her," said sophomore Anglique Gray.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated by Milford police. Anyone who may have been in the area or who has information about the crash is asked to contact police at 203-783-4749.
