Meriden, Conn. (WTNH) - Like a king's crown towering over Meriden's 1,800 acre Hubbard Park, Castle Craig is a destination with a view.
"Feel great, great," says Iris Torres of Waterbury "Something beautiful from up there."
Located up on East Peak and standing at 32 feet tall, this stone tower was built with local rock back in October of 1900. It was donated by a local businessman Walter Hubbard. More than one hundred years later it still attracts quite the crowd, especially on clear days. It's all about how far you can see.
"You can see the Sound if you're lucky and you can see the Berkshire Mountains, so really nice," Ed Walters of Meriden said.
On the day of our visit we were able to pick Hartford out, a little bit of New Haven and even Sleeping Giant miles away in Hamden.
Gill Busher on vacation from England loved taking in all of the sights.
"I think it's amazing," Busher said. "The view is spectacular. It's just good."
How can you check it out? There are hiking trails, but an easier option is a road that starts in Hubbard Park, which is open from May 1st through the month of October. Trust me, the view is well worth the walk or ride to the top.
