NORTH HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- A chemical spill at Quinnipiac University has sent two people to a hospital for treatment of eye and throat irritation.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says a chemical reaction in a facilities maintenance building reportedly sent up a yellow cloud. Two people who were working nearby were taken to MidState Medical Center in Meriden.

The reaction involved a chemical used in cleaning materials.

The university brought in a contractor to clean the area.
