Cheshire church celebrates rebirth

CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTNH) -- They never gave up the fight after the devastating collapse a year and a half ago. Now they are celebrating an impressive rebirth.

The Calvary Life Church finally has a permanent home. And it was a sunny, warm day for their ribbon cutting Friday.

However, it was a very different day back in January 2011 when heavy snow took down their roof and the building was a total loss.

For months, members traveled every Sunday to different schools in the area to worship.

"It was devastating, and a lot of people I think lost faith a little," said Jasmine Avilla, church member.

She says the struggle brought the congregation closer than ever and now they're celebrating in a brand new church with a children's wing and even a coffee shop.

People came from as far as Aruba, Texas and around the country to be present for the dedication.
