Cheshire, Conn. (WTNH) - Two people were on board a small plane that crashed in Cheshire, police tell News 8.

The plane went down on Boulder Road around 5:15pm. Luckily, the  25-year-old pilot and his 53-year-old father who were on board the plane were able to walk away unharmed even though the plane is now sitting upside-down. No one was injured on the ground either.

The two seat fixed wing single engine plane departed New Bedford Regional Airport in Massachusetts when it experienced engine problems over Cheshire. The pilot and passenger were headed for Waterbury-Oxford Airport. The plane is registered to Image Aviation Services out of Oxford.

A pilot training company owns the plane.  Information regarding the plane is can be found at: www.imageaviationservices.com/contact.html

The plane crashed in Gilbert Lassen's front yard.

"I kind of spun around and looked out the window and there it was. I was like oh my, is everyone okay, it was just the two of them they were both okay they were shaken up but thank god they were alive," says Lassen of Cheshire.

"I was going to take a shower and there was a door knock, I looked out the window there were no cars, what's going on, and there it is," says Lassen.

They had engine trouble, police say the plane began to cough and sputter, and had to set down in a field in Cheshire. They were on their way home from New Bedford Mass., and came up short of the Waterbury/Oxford airport and just missed Lassen's house

"It was pretty close 150 feet I think," says Lassen. "it was as soft as a pillow, just put the plane down in the snow and it was a soft safe landing."

It was clear skies and smooth sailing until they lost power and sank into the snowy field flipping end over end coming to rest upside down. Hard to believe neither father nor son were hurt, not even a single scratch.

It is a happy ending after a rough landing for this pilot and his father.

The FAA has been called in to assist with the investigation.
