HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Morning classes were canceled at Quinnipiac's Mt. Carmel campus after a car crashed left the campus without power.
A 56-year-old Woodbury man was driving on New Road and when he suffered a medical issue and lost consciousness around 6:30 a.m. The vehicle crashed and severed a utility pole, and also took out a gas monitoring line.
Electricity has been restored and classes will begin at 2 p.m.
New Road will remain shut down between Mount Carmel Road and Sherman Avenue while UI and Southern Connecticut Gas Company workers continue to make repairs to the pole and gas line.
Motorists can still enter the campus using New Road by traveling north from Ives Street.
School officials say Charlie Gibson's lecture is still on for 7 p.m. Thursday night at Burt Kahn Court.
The man was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment. His current condition is not known.
The crash is under investigation.
