NAUGATUCK, Conn. (AP) - The company that was working on a Connecticut highway bridge when part of it collapsed and injured a crew member says it was following approved demolition procedures at the time.
Southington-based Brunalli Construction Co. also said in a statement released Thursday that it's fully cooperating with state and federal agencies investigating Tuesday's collapse of the Route 63 bridge in Naugatuck.
State officials say the company was working on the $24.5 million replacement of the bridge over the Naugatuck River when about 100 feet of the 586-foot span fell to the ground. The section that collapsed was closed to traffic at the time.
A 59-year-old worker, Anthony Mariano of Middlebury, was injured. He's in stable condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
