Contractor leaves woman with leaky roof

Waterbury, Conn. (WTNH) - A Waterbury woman is dealing with all kinds of problems, including a leaky roof, after hiring a contractor who she says put her house in worse condition than it was in before.

It was a brand new roof put on the garage of a Waterbury house, now it's leaking and that's just the beginning of the problems.

"There is no water in the sink and you can't use the toilet, it doesn't flush," said Debra Cipriano, "no not at all, doesn't flush, doesn't fill up."

A neighbor contacted News 8 to get help for Debbie Sipriano. She says all she wants is her house fixed in time for Christmas. Her brother-in-law hired a contractor to remodel her house and she says the contractor is doing shoddy work.

Sipriano explained to News 8 how she turns her heat on, "Like this, there is no thermostat, so I go like this," she said.

At night Sipriano said, "I time it, and put the alarm on and if it is really cold I will put it on for twenty minutes and then turn it off."

In the basement, there is water on the floor and on the walls, which Sipriano says is the contractors fault.

"This is his welding job, I mean solder job," said Sipriano. "Look at all the drips and look at how this is leaking."

She continued to say that the water isn't coming from the roof, but coming from upstairs when she flushes the toilet.

"Look at this cluster of mildew," Sipriano said.

News 8 called the contractor, Evaldo, to get his explanation. He said he works for Sipriano's brother-in-law and not her.

"Did I do a good job," Evaldo repeated, "I don't know. I would have to see what she is talking about."

Before hanging up, Evaldo said he is not done with the project yet, and that he will finish the work and do it right.
