(WTNH) -- Shirley Love Joyner, who served as assistant principal at Hillhouse High in New Haven, has filed a defamation lawsuit against Principal Kermit Carolina.

According to the New Haven Register , Joyner's attorney says Carolina made false statements about her during the grade tampering investigation, which found Carolina gave student athletes preferential treatment.

Carolina denies the allegations.
