Southbury (WTNH) - A family in Southbury is especially thankful for its dog this holiday season after it helped rescue them from a fire inside their home.
Maggie always loved being in this kitchen with owner Eileen Bosley by her side. Now she trembles while inside, reliving an early morning fire that ripped through their condo, Friday.
There is serious damage to the inside, but the Bosleys are thankful that only the condo was hurt.
That's thanks to Maggie; a 7-year-old, Doberman-mix and product of the local pound, who sniffed out the smoke and alarmed her owner immediately.
"He wears a mask at night for sleep apnea, so he would not have smelled it. It would have to be me to smell it; I didn't. She is the one who smelled it," said Eileen.
It wasn't easy getting the Boselys up at 4 a.m. It took a little persistence. So Maggie ran back and forth until they got up.
She even used her paws to nudge Eileen until she finally got up. That's when they saw the flames.
"If it weren't for Maggie, we wouldn't be here," said Arthur Bosley. "The dog could do no wrong; now she could do whatever she wants."
That means for Maggie, it's going to be an extra nice holiday,
with all the dog treats [and a even filet mignon if] she wants.
