East Haven, Conn. (WTNH) - The East Haven Fire Dept., with the assistance of Branford fire officials, were on the scene of a large brush fire just near Tweed New Haven Airport on Coe Ave and Silver Sands Road.

The blaze started around 6 p.m., Tuesday. Smoke could be seen miles away.

"It was pretty big, I mean the flames were high, the smoke was heavy and black and you could smell it from the Branford side," said one onlooker.

Firefighters were able to get the situation under control before any damage was done to nearby property.

No injuries were reported.
