WALLINGFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A fire Saturday morning, which has since been put out, forced at least 75 people to evacuate an apartment complex, officials said.
Fire department officials said that between 75 and 80 people were evacuated and 15 have been displaced after a fire broke out at the Silver Pond Apartments at 656 Center Street.
The fire department was dispatched to the scene around 5 a.m. and firefighters from Meriden, Hamden and North Branford assisted the efforts.
Officials said the fire stemmed from an apartment in the B-wing of the complex, and that there is significant fire, smoke and water damage to the B wing.
Most of the people evacuated were transported to the Wallingford Senior Center. The Red Cross is also helping to find residents places to stay while the damage is being fixed.
Residents from the A and C-wings are now back in their apartments.
One person inside the apartment where the fire started was taken to the hospital. That person's condition is not known at this time.
Fire department officials are still investigating and there are clean-up crews on the scene.
