Electrix employees react to murder/suicide

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Two brothers are dead after a family feud led to gunfire. And now, folks who work at the New Haven business run by that family are wondering what's next for the company.

"I feel very sorry for these people," one woman said crying.

Employees were stunned standing outside Electrix. One boss was dead in his car, the other was on the run from police.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Monday morning on Spring Street, just as employees were showing up to work.

Police say the two men are brothers, both running the family business. They say Daniel Shwisha shot his brother Gordon in the parking lot, then took off.

"Our main concern was to locate all of the family members to make sure they were alright," said Asst. Chief Archie Generoso. "And that is what my people did."

An hour later police were called to a home in Westport. There, they say Daniel Shwisher had taken his own life at his parent's house.

Employees say over the last few months there was a lot of tension between the brothers, and Daniel hadn't spent much time around the office.

"He was a very good humanitarian, always treated us well and that is why we are surprised about this," said one female employee.

News 8 spoke with a few business owners in the area, and while they didn't want to go on camera, they said there was no warning before the shooting. One brother pulls in, the other brother approaches and then 'bang bang,' no shouting or arguing. It has the neighborhood on edge.

"He was a good boss, a good good boss," the employee said. "That is why we stay here because we can not believe it."

Police say they haven't had any trouble with the family business, which was started nearly 50 years ago by the father. There was one call which came in a couple of weeks ago; police were asked to move ammunition from the business.

They are still trying to put all the pieces together.

"We believe there might have been a dispute over the family business, but right now we can't confirm that," said Asst. Chief Generoso. "It is all still under investigation, it's just a very tragic situation."
