CHESHIRE, Conn. (WTNH) -- A high school prank or a serious threat? That's the question at Cheshire High school after a message was found written in a bathroom, and extra security was brought in as a precaution.
"It's just threats," said sophomore Dante Barnett. "Nothing ever gets actually violent here."
To be sure police were very visible on campus. They were there for reassurance and prevention.
"They assured us we would be safe," junior Nicholas Ragusa said. "They have extra security so it should be fine."
It's all a response to a threat found scrawled on the wall of the boy's bathroom. It read "people will die in school on October 2nd according to the Mayans."
"I don't think its a big deal or anything," senior Ruth Douglas said. "I think it was probably just some immature person that wrote whatever it was on the bathroom wall. Like, I didn't think twice about coming or not coming to school."
Students who are athletes tell News 8 they came to school because if they are not in class they can't go to practice or take part in any games or meets.
When asked how he felt about going to school, junior Jake Black said he was "kinda scared, 'cause if its getting this much popularity it must be dangerous so...."
It looks like most students were present Tuesday. School officials said attendance numbers are normal; no drastic increase in absences.
"I woke up this morning feeling good," Barnett said. "It's gonna stay good. I'm not going to let anything change that."
If the author of the threat is found it's unclear what kind of discipline the student could face.
