Fire investigators are looking into what caused a fire that sent six residents fleeing from their home early Thursday morning. Two other fires were also reported overnight.

The fire broke out at a multi-family home on Bond Street, which is between Congress and Columbus Avenues.

A neighbor told News Channel 8 he heard a loud bang or explosion, and moments later saw flames engulf the rear of the home

"it was a loud, loud explosion," Earl McGlut said. "I looked out and everything was on fire in the back, the first and the second floor back porch."

The home is divided into two apartments -- one on the main floor and another on the second floor.

There are no reports of injuries. Police have the area taped off, and arson investigators are on the scene looking for the cause.

New Haven firefighters were also called out to knock down fires in two other locations, one at 86 Hazel Street and another at 336 Edgewood Ave. The Red Cross said it is helping a total of 17 people displaced by the three fires.
