Branford (WTNH) - A Branford firefighter was taken to the hospital after receiving an electrical shock fighting an early morning fire.

Firefighters were called out to Lanphiers Cove Road for a fire at a cottage.

The fire on the small road near the western side of Branford Harbor seriously damaged the cottage and damaged a second.

"When we got here there was one cottage well involved in fire, extending to a second cottage," Deputy Chief Ron Mullen said.

The firefighter received the shock when a live electrical wire fell and landed in a puddle. The injured firefighter was not identified by name.

"It does not appear to be a serious injury," the deputy chief said.

Two firefighters also fell fighting the fire when the water they sprayed on the buildings turned into ice.

"Both cottages were unoccupied as it's a summer residence location here," Dep. Chief Mullen said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
