BRANFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters battled a blaze at a Branford home Monday night.
The fire broke out around 6 p.m. at 74 Laurel Hill Road.
Upon arrival, crews found a fire in a wooded enclosure of metal pipes for a fireplace inside the home. Officials said the metal pipes inside the enclosure became disconnected, and when the homeowner set a fire in the fireplace the embers began to go inside the enclosure and caught the wood on fire.
Crews were able to knock the fire down before it reached the attic of the two-story single-family home.
Officials said the home is habitable and has minimal water damage, but repairs will be needed in the home. The metal piping in the enclosure also needs to be replaced.
