Milford, Conn. (WTNH) - Nothing says holiday cheer like homemade cookies, which is why every year, Milford firefighters collect cookies to send to the troops overseas.
"We started this several years ago, and it's just a way of supporting the troops. We try throughout the year to do that," said Chief Louis LaCecchia.
All kinds of cookies are welcome, from chocolate chip, to sugar, to oatmeal.
Some of the cookies are made by firefighters and the rest come from people in the community dropping them off throughout the day.
All the cookies get boxed up and sent to servicemen and women during the holidays. Specifically people who are now serving, but come from Milford.
"We have two firefighters serving overseas today - Matt Broscak and Zack Daniels," said Chief LaCecchia. "Both firefighters serving overseas and we'll be sending them boxes of cookies also."
There are at least 3 other Milford residents overseas who will also get cookies. They sent about 15 boxes out last year, and every one is appreciated.
"I do get letters back from the companies we send them to and they are very thankful for them and thankful for being remembered," Chief LaCecchia said.
The Milford Fire Department does good work for troops overseas all year long.

If you'd like to drop off some cookies, or if you know someone from Milford who is serving and should receive cookies, stop by the fire headquarters in downtown Milford before the end of the day.
