Firefighters respond to gas emergency

MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Firefighters and workers from Southern Connecticut Natural Gas were on the scene of a gas main break on Boston Post Road in Milford Tuesday.

Route 1 was was shut down in both directions between West River Street and Plains Road after a construction crew struck a small connection to a 12-inch gas main.

Twelve nearby businesses were evacuated as a result of the leak.

No injuries have been reported.  

The incident happened around 2 p.m.

By 6 p.m. officials said the leak had been capped and the road had been reopened.
